Scraping

Scraping is a therapeutic technique commonly referred to as Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) that helps address soft tissue dysfunction.  The scraping is performed with a variety of instruments that can differ in shape, density and material depending on the body part and quality of the tissue.  Depending on the body’s needs, the application itself can vary in pressure, duration and speed.  The instruments break down fascial restrictions, scar tissue and adhesions causing a healing response allowing toxin removal and tissue remodeling while also restoring function.  This technique is rapidly growing in popularity due to it’s effectiveness while being noninvasive.  In order to bring long lasting change, IASTM should be used in conjunction with other modalities, as well as addressing the musculoskeletal aspects like biomechanics and movement patterns.  This global approach is best suited for hunting down and improving upon the root cause of such tissue distortion.
