The Meaning

LOCO is short for locomotion or locomotor skills
Locomotion– the ability to move from one place to another

Locomotor skills– the basic ways to move that are the building blocks of coordination

The majority of the movement in our life would qualify under these terms. However, if you look at what movements make up the bulk of the fitness industry, you will find most programs are largely based around non-locomotor movements.

Non-locomotor skills– the movements that occur in the body and do NOT force the body to travel from one place to another. This reality is a large reason behind so many people struggling to find effective and lasting solutions for improving the way they look, feel and move.

This is a large reason why many people struggle to find lasting solutions for improving the way they move. Stationary exercises simply don’t demand the same kind of dynamic control, coordination and awareness as traveling exercises. Total integration of movement and locomotor skill is what’s necessary for long term change that shows outside our workouts. This leads me to another point….

Manipulative skills– the movements that require control of both the body and an object, when there are clear indicators they aren’t ready for it….or it doesn’t serve them much, if at all, in their life.

These skills are usually the hardest to acquire. Logic could tell us that if a person struggles to control their body as it exists, they probably won’t have great object control. Yet this is often exactly what’s asked of people in exercise and sports, when there are clear indicators they aren’t ready for it.

This is why we are named LOCO

We consider these things and install progressive strategies that bring about integration that’s truly developmental. This approach is far more effective in delivering much improved movement quality and competency. We challenge you to find many programs that can truly delver the same!!
